Heat Alarms


Scottish Law Compliant Heat Detector

Requirements


BS Standard - BS 5446-2:2003
Have a tamperproof 10year battery.
Be interlinked with all other smoke/heat alarms.
To be fitted in the kitchen.
To be fitted on the ceiling as central as possible.
At least 300mm away from walls.
No more than 5.3 metres from any point of the ceiling. If this is not possible then additional alarms should be used.
On a sloping ceiling no more than 150mm from the apex.

Scottish Law Compliant Smoke Detector

Requirements


BS Standard - BS EN14604:2005
Have a tamperproof 10year battery.
Be interlinked with all other smoke/heat alarms.
To be fitted in the living room or the room you use most often during the day.
To be fitted in every hallway or landing on all levels of your home.
To be fitted in a loft or garage conversion.
To be fitted on the ceiling as central as possible.
At least 300mm away from walls.
In the living room - No more than 7.5 metres from any point of the ceiling. If this is not possible then additional alarms should be used.
In the landing/hallway - No more than 3 metres from any bedroom door. If this is not possible then additional alarms should be used.
In the landing/hallway - No more than 7 metres from the living room or kitchen door. If this is not possible then additional alarms should be used.
On a sloping ceiling no more than 600mm from the apex.
Do not fit directly above heaters or fires to avoid nuisance alarms

Carbon Monoxide Alarms


Scottish Law Compliant Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Requirements


BS Standard - British Kitemark EN 50291-1
Have a tamperproof 10year battery.
Can be interlinked with all other smoke/heat alarms.
To be fitted in every room that has carbon-fueled appliance e.g. gas boiler, gas fire, coal fire, wood burning stove or flue, unless the appliance is used solely for cooking.
If the boiler is in a cupboard then mount the carbon-monoxide alarm on the wall outside the cupboard, no more than 300mm away from the cupboard door.
To be fitted on the wall higher than any door or window and at least 150mm below the ceiling.
